Burgundy filly blitzes rivals in Hastings jumpout 15 Dec 2017

A two-year-old unraced filly by Burgundy in the Kate Hercock stable was undoubtedly the star at today’s Hastings jumpouts.

There were five heats held up against the running rail on the course proper, where the ground was dead.

The Burgundy filly was hugely impressive when taking out the last of the three 400-metre heats, bolting in by eight lengths with trainer Kate Hercock in the saddle.

The filly jumped quickly from the barrier and the further they went the further she got in front, with her winning time of 25.1s being at least a second faster than the other two 400-metre heats.

Waipukurau’s Simon Wilson purchased the Burgundy filly for $5000 after she was originally passed in at the Select session at this year’s Karaka yearling sales.

She is out of the Entrepreneur mare Foxette, who was the winner of two races over distances of 1100 metres and 1400 metres. It is also the family of the Melbourne Cup winner Gurner’s Lane.

Worldclass was another who impressive at the jumpouts when she won the only 1000 metre heat. The Iffraaj mare sat in behind the leaders until the home turn before easily taking over and raced away to score by 2 lengths.
