Just As Well, preparing for the Rating 85 2300-metre race at Thursday’s Levin meeting at Otaki, stretched out well in a solo gallop at this morning’s Hastings track session.
Fast work was confined to the plough, which provided soft footing after gale force winds hit Hawke’s Bay yesterday after noon.
Just As Well had co-trainer Sue Thompson-Brown aboard when working over a round, running home the last 1200 metres in 1:22.3 and final 600 in 37.1. The big Lowell gelding hasn’t raced since finishing fourth in the Feilding Cup (2100m) at Awapuni on October 29 but has been kept up to the mark in training and looks in good order.
Enuffisenuff is another who hit out strongly at this morning’s session when she was shading stablemate Profundo at the end of 1000 metres in 1:4.1, the last 600 in 36.8. They could both start next at the Wellington meeting on Saturday week.
Heredity, a likely running in the Rating 85 1600 at Otaki, ended his work with 600 metres in 38.9. Trainer John Bary has just been waiting for a firm track to kick the horse off again.
Just Call Me Bond, another who could start at Otaki on Friday, worked easily over 800 metres in 55, the last 600 in 40. He was not far away when fifth over 1200 metres at Te Rapa last start and could tackle the Levin Stakes (1200m) at Otaki.
The Hombre, preparing for The Concorde (1200m) at Ellerslie on Saturday week, strode out well on his own over 1200 metres in 1:21.6, the last 600 in 39.5. He is another who looks in excellent order.
Shelved sprinted keenly over the last 600 metres on his work in 36 while The Knight worked in from the 1000-metre peg and was timed to run the last 800 in 52.9.
Hempstead looked to be travelling slightly better than stablemate Jamaa at the end of 1000 metres in 1:5.2, the last 600 in 37.7 while Catalina ran 600 metres at three-quarter pace and then ran another 600 in 40.
Neversaynever was kept under a firm hold throughout 1200 metres in 1:26.6, the last 600 in 43.3 while King Leonidas and Turqoise clocked 49.8 for a quick 800 metres, the last 600 in 37.3. They are both in John Bary’s stable.
Snippins showed her usual dash when cutting out 800 metres on her own in 50.9, the last 600 in 37.1 while Arizona Jazz worked in at three-quarter pace from the 1000-metre peg and sped up over the last 600 in 38.1.
Paparazzi was let off with an easy 1000 metres in 1:13.4, coming home the last 600 in 40.2 while Makeba underwent a similar workout and ran home the last 600 metres in 40.8. They are both in the John Bary stable.
Zsa Zsa and a Rock Of Gibraltar-Sixty Seconds three-year-old filly took 56 for an easy 800 metres, the last 600 in 41.5 while Cowboy, a Fast ‘N’ Famous-Golden Gamble three-year-old gelding, a Bernadini two-year-old and an O’Reilly three-year-old were all restricted to just three-quarter pace.
