Cowboy, preparing for the Rating 65 1200-metre race at Awapuni on Boxing Day, strode out well with stablemate Pimms Time in a 1000-metre gallop at today’s Hastings track session.
Fast work was mainly confined to the plough (soft) but Cowboy and Pimms Time worked wide out on the course proper (firm). They were timed to run 1000 metres in 1:8.7, running the first 400 at three-quarter pace but then coming home the last 600 in a much quicker 37.3.
Cowboy needed the run when second over 1200 metres at Gisborne last month, his first race since April. He has drawn well at barrier six on Monday and will be ridden by Jonathan Parkes.
Pimms Time is a promising Pins filly in the Lowry/Cullen stable who is likely to make her race debut at the Hawke’s Bay meeting on New Year’s Day.
Screamadelica turned in another good solo gallop on the plough, running home the last 600 metres in 37. She looks a lot stronger this time in and will kick off a fresh campaign at Taupo on December 30.
Danelizzie, preparing for a 1600-metre maiden race at Hastings on New Year’s Day, worked over 1200 metres on the plough in 1:19.5, the last 600 in 38.9.
Starguru ended her work with an easy 600 metres in 40.7. She is a lazy trackworker but it is a different story on race day and she is expected to line up next in the open 1200-metre sprint at Hastings on New Year’s Day.
Hackensack was the only horse to use the firm No.1 grass and sprinted 600 metres in 37.3 while Goldmine ran 600 metres on the plough in 38.
Jamaa worked over 1000 metres on the plough in 1:10.3, the last 600 in 39.2 while stablemate Abyssinian ran over the same ground in 1:12.1, the last 600 in 41.4.
Snippins was kept under a good hold when running 800 metres on the plough, the last 600 in 41.5. She is likely to start next in the Rating 75 1600 at Hastings on New Year’s Day.
